Our Logo

The symbolism of the logo is deeply rooted in our Catholic artistic heritage. The overall heraldic design conveys tradition and majesty. The SHIELD symbolizes faith (Eph. 6:16).

The five dominant images of the shield, taken from Creation and Redemption, are expressive of Jesus Christ the King. They are the rising sun, the blue starry heavens, the Holy Scriptures, the Cross and the rising monstrance revealing the Holy Eucharist.

THE RISING SUN of the dawn, evocative of the Messianic “sun of justice” (Mal. 4:2), symbolizes the Resurrection and the Lordship of Jesus Christ over all. He is the one and only Savior and Lord of the universe. It also represents the dawn of His Kingdom breaking into the world. Green, one of the colors of the Holy Spirit, connotes life, bountifulness, growth and hope. 

In Christian iconography, THE BLUE STARRY HEAVENS symbolizes the Mother of the King, Our Lady, the Blessed Virgin Mary (Rev. 12:1). This image makes an explicit connection to the heraldic shield of the Archdiocese of Portland and Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, who is the patroness of the Archdiocese of Portland. The parish and school exist only in communion with our local Archbishop and the universal Church.

THE HOLY SCRIPTURES show the centrality of the written Word of God, source of all knowledge and wisdom, which reveals Jesus Christ, forms us into His disciples and leads us to His Kingdom. 

Rising up from the bottom of the shield is THE HOLY EUCHARIST in the monstrance. Jesus Christ the King comes to us here and now in His Real Presence in the Blessed Sacrament. The color gold connotes royalty and the divine life. Our parish strives to be a Eucharistic parish, centered on Jesus truly present in the Holy Eucharist. The design of the monstrance is taken from our own parish monstrance.

At the top of the monstrance, placed at the very center of the shield is THE CROSS. Jesus Christ inaugurated His Kingship and His Kingdom from His Cross, which is the axis of all that exists, revealing Divine Love and communicating the Divine Life to all who believe. The Cross unifies the images of rising sun and the rising Eucharist, as well as the Holy Scriptures and Holy Eucharist. The union of the rising sun and the rising Eucharist show the unity of creation and redemption, of faith and reason. The union of Holy Scripture and the Holy Eucharist show the inner unity of word and sacrament.
